Balderton Capital, an investor in companies like Revolut and Darktrace, has successfully raised $1.3 billion (£1 billion) across two new investment funds.
The venture capital firm secured $615 million for its Early Stage Fund IX and $685 million for its second Growth Fund. These funds will enable Balderton to invest in companies from the seed stage up to their initial public offerings (IPO).
This marks the first time Balderton has simultaneously raised capital for both its early and growth stage funds.

“At Balderton, we believe the most effective way to change the world is through building businesses, particularly those that will have a significant impact in Europe,” said Bernard Liautaud, managing partner at Balderton.
“Our goal is straightforward: to be the preferred partner for founders as they start and expand their European technology ventures. These new funds empower us to fulfill that mission.”
Founded in 2000, Balderton has supported nearly 300 tech companies across Europe, including GoCardless, Wayve, and Depop.
Growth Minister Lord Livermore commented, “The government aims to make the UK the best place in the world to start and grow a business. It’s vital to improve support for British scaleups, and investments like those from Balderton Capital are crucial to their success, from seed stage to IPO.”
British Patient Capital, a subsidiary of the UK government-owned British Business Bank, is among the investors in Balderton’s new funds. It has committed $90 million, with $25 million allocated to the early-stage fund and $65 million to the growth stage fund.
“We recognize that entrepreneurs in the UK and Europe have the talent and ambition to build globally competitive companies,” said Robert Greenwood, investment director for funds at British Patient Capital. “To cultivate the next generation of global leaders, companies need partners who can support them at every growth stage.”
Recent investments by Balderton include leading a £44 million Series B round for carbon data platform Sylvera and a £3.1 million round for edtech startup Grasp.
