FEMA Grant Overview and Funding Allocation
FEMA announced $1.35 billion in grants for two key resilience programs: the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) program, offering $750 million, and the Flood Mitigation Assistance program, with $600 million for flood risk mitigation projects. These programs are part of the Biden Administration’s Investing in America Agenda, aiming to enhance climate resilience nationwide. Funding will support efforts to reduce vulnerability to extreme weather events, with a focus on community-driven projects and hazard mitigation planning.

Commitment to Equity and Simplified Application Process
FEMA’s grants are aligned with the Justice40 Initiative, prioritizing disadvantaged communities. The agency exceeded its Justice40 goals, allocating a significant portion of the funding to these communities. To support broader participation, FEMA simplified the application process by reducing costs, providing tailored technical support, and offering pre-calculated benefits for many projects. Special provisions are in place for Tribal Nations and underserved areas, ensuring equitable access to funding and resources.

Key Deadlines and Application Details
The application window for the FY 2024 BRIC and Flood Mitigation Assistance grants opens on January 6, 2025, and closes on April 18, 2025. FEMA has set a $150 million cap per applicant to ensure a diverse distribution of funds. Additionally, up to $50 million is reserved exclusively for Tribal Nations, with a $2 million cap per tribe. Applicants can submit through FEMA Grants Outcomes, and several webinars will be held to guide local, state, and tribal governments through the process. Read More
