Circunomics is committed to advancing internationalization and creating new solutions for the sustainable reuse and recycling of lithium-ion batteries. The company’s cutting-edge software features a B2B marketplace and analytics tool that covers the entire battery lifecycle, from first-use to second-life applications.

At the core of Circunomics’ offering is its digital marketplace, which facilitates the B2B trade of used or surplus battery packs, modules, and cells. This marketplace supports the transition of energy storage systems from their first-life use into second-life applications, ultimately reducing waste and enhancing sustainability.

The company’s software also includes sophisticated analytics that allow for a detailed analysis of each battery’s state of health (SoH). Using digital twin technology, Circunomics simulates and identifies the most suitable second-life applications for batteries based on their remaining performance potential. Batteries that are deemed unsuitable for second-life use due to their condition are directed to certified recycling partners, ensuring that all batteries are processed responsibly.

“We aim to strongly contribute to bringing battery packs, modules, and cells into a meaningful, sustainable, and comprehensive circular economy through our independent digital marketplace and detailed analytics,” said Felix Wagner, CEO of Circunomics. “Globally, by 2030, the automotive sector alone is expected to generate five to six million used vehicle batteries annually that will reach the end of their lifecycle. Our goal is to help address this challenge by creating a platform for efficient reuse and recycling.”

As the global demand for energy storage continues to rise, Circunomics is positioning itself as a key player in the drive towards a more sustainable battery ecosystem. The €8 million in funding will support the company’s efforts to expand its operations, develop new digital services, and connect industry partners across the battery supply chain.

By strengthening its platform and scaling up, Circunomics aims to contribute to the growing circular economy, providing an innovative solution to one of the most pressing challenges in the battery and energy storage sectors.
