PRESS RELEASE – The 2nd Annual Small Modular Reactors (SMR) Canada Summit is set to take place in Strathcona County on March 4-5, at Community Centre & County Hall in Sherwood Park, Alberta. Co-hosted by Strathcona County and Parkland County, this event is expected to draw over 400 influential delegates from across Canada, USA, and Europe, marking a pivotal moment for a nuclear energy future in Alberta.
With Presenting Partner AtkinsRéalis, the SMR Canada Summit serves as a powerful platform to spotlight Western Canada’s potential as a leader in nuclear energy development. The event will bring together top decision-makers, including federal, provincial and municipal government, EPC’s, industrial power users and supply chain – all to explore how Small Modular Reactors and nuclear can revolutionize the energy landscape and drive Canada closer to decarbonization.
“Strathcona County is proud to co-host the 2nd Annual SMR Canada Summit, a landmark event that underscores our commitment to exploring innovation and sustainable energy solutions,” said Rod Frank, Mayor of Strathcona County. “As we study the potential of Small Modular Reactors, we are excited to play a role in shaping Alberta’s energy future, one that balances economic growth with environmental responsibility,” said Rod Frank, Mayor of Strathcona County. “This summit will foster critical discussions and partnerships that can drive real progress toward a cleaner, more secure energy landscape for our community and beyond. Going forward, informed discussions and education will support important decisions on energy alternatives.”

“Parkland County is committed to exploring a diverse range of energy solutions and investments in our region,” says Mayor Allan Gamble. “By embracing innovation and diversification, we are positioning our community to thrive in a rapidly changing technological and policy environment and make a positive contribution to Alberta’s energy landscape. We are excited to co-host this conference alongside our partners at Strathcona County and look forward showcasing Parkland County to attendees.”
With renewed interest in nuclear power as a cleaner alternative to natural gas and coal, the SMR Canada Summit will delve deep into discussion surrounding the feasibility of current technologies, and what infrastructure and financing is needed to unlock its potential. The event is a must-attend for key stakeholders, including First Nations leaders, government representatives, engineering and construction companies, utilities, financial institutions, and end-users.
Topics such as site development, safety protocols, transportation logistics, community engagement, economic impacts, and workforce development will be front and center at this year’s summit. Attendees will gain unparalleled insights into how nuclear can create sustainable growth, energy security, and economic prosperity for Canada. In addition, a free-to-attend Public Engagement Forum will take place on March 5 from 3:30 pm – 5:00 pm, allowing industry and government leaders, community leaders, First Nations and the public to learn more about exploring nuclear.
“We are proud to present this 2nd annual event to discuss practical opportunities for nuclear in Western Canada,” said Wes Scott, CEO of organizer EventWorx. “We are especially proud to be working with our partners Strathcona County and Parkland County who see the vision for nuclear energy in Alberta. We hosted the first Summit in Alberta in April 2024 and were overwhelmed by the level of interest of key stakeholders from across the country. We are honoured to work on behalf of these stakeholders to organize SMR Canada and work together to embrace new energy sources.”
