Surrey-based NatureMetrics, a leader in nature intelligence and biodiversity monitoring, has successfully completed a €24.3 million Series B funding round. The investment, spearheaded by Just Climate, EDF Pulse Ventures, and the Monaco ReOcean Fund, also saw contributions from existing investors 2150, BNP Paribas, Ananda Impact Ventures, and SWEN Blue Ocean. The funds will support the company’s innovative biodiversity monitoring technologies, including its environmental DNA (eDNA) solutions and AI-enhanced Nature Intelligence Platform.
Dimple Patel, CEO of NatureMetrics, highlighted the growing importance of nature-related risks in business operations, saying, “Companies can no longer afford to ignore their impact on ecosystems. Addressing nature-related risks isn’t just about compliance—it’s about future-proofing business operations and making meaningful contributions to a sustainable future. This investment will allow us to rapidly accelerate our solution—enabling businesses to understand nature across their supply chains and make informed operational and financial decisions. We are making nature data accessible and actionable, driving a shift towards a more sustainable global economy.”
Founded in 2014 by Dr. Kat Bruce, NatureMetrics provides end-to-end biodiversity monitoring and impact reporting solutions through its eDNA technology. The company operates labs in the UK and Canada, with a partner lab in Indonesia, and serves over 600 organisations, including major corporations such as Unilever and Anglo American, as well as conservation groups like WWF and Fauna & Flora. NatureMetrics is currently active in 110 countries and employs more than 200 people.
The funding will accelerate the development of the Nature Intelligence Platform, enhancing AI and digital capabilities to process complex geospatial and bioacoustics data. Additionally, the company plans to expand its global reach to meet the rising demand for biodiversity monitoring solutions, driven by regulatory frameworks such as the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD).
Siddarth Shrikanth, Director of Natural Climate Solutions at Just Climate, expressed confidence in the company’s potential, stating, “We believe that companies across industries seeking to protect and restore nature within their operations and supply chains lack the high-quality data they need to act with confidence. NatureMetrics combines the power of environmental DNA technology with a range of other data sources to generate actionable insights, and we are delighted to support their scale-up journey at a critical moment for global biodiversity action.”
The need for reliable biodiversity data has grown in the wake of COP15 and the adoption of the Global Biodiversity Framework. NatureMetrics’ eDNA technology, paired with advanced analytics, allows for site-level biodiversity assessments that help businesses manage risks, track conservation progress, and make informed decisions across industries.
Olivier Wenden, CEO of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, further emphasized the company’s impact, stating, “NatureMetrics is revolutionising biodiversity data, by turning insights into actionable strategies that align economic growth with environmental and ocean resilience. This innovation drives value creation while setting a new benchmark for embedding ocean health into business decisions – a natural fit for the ReOcean Fund’s mission to transform the blue economy.”
With this investment, NatureMetrics is poised to play a pivotal role in advancing biodiversity monitoring, offering a scalable solution that supports businesses in meeting growing regulatory and environmental demands.
