Largest Private Energy Investment Since 2022

DTEK, Ukraine’s largest private energy company, announced a €450 million ($468.59 million) investment to expand the Tyligulska Wind Power Plant near the Black Sea. This project marks the biggest private sector commitment in Ukraine since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022 and the largest private energy investment in the nation’s history. Scheduled for completion by late 2026, the expansion will increase capacity from 114 MW to 500 MW, generating 1.7 TWh of electricity annually—enough to power 900,000 Ukrainian homes.

Strategic Financing and Partnerships

The project is financed with €370 million in state-backed loans from Denmark’s Export and Investment Fund (EIFO), with DTEK covering the rest. As part of the expansion, DTEK secured a purchase agreement with Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas for 64 turbines. This partnership highlights a robust international collaboration aimed at supporting Ukraine’s transition to renewable energy during a challenging period.

A Resilient Path Toward Energy Independence

The Tyligulska Wind Power Plant, operational since May 2023, represents a crucial step in modernizing Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Following the destruction of 90% of DTEK’s thermal power plants by Russian attacks, this renewable energy pivot showcases resilience and sustainability. DTEK’s owner, Rinat Akhmetov, emphasized the project’s role in rebuilding the nation’s energy independence, signaling hope for a greener, self-reliant future. Read More
