Australia’s CEFC Commits Record $3.5B to Clean Energy, Unlocking $13.3B in Projects

Record-Breaking Investment to Accelerate Clean Energy Transition

Australia’s Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC) has committed $3.5 billion in new investments during the second half of 2024, its highest-ever for a six-month period. This funding is expected to unlock a total of $13.3 billion in clean energy projects nationwide when combined with co-investor contributions. The green bank completed 28 transactions, averaging more than one deal per week.

Major Infrastructure and Government Support

A significant portion of CEFC’s funding was directed toward critical transmission projects, including Humelink and the NSW section of the Victoria-NSW Interconnector—the largest single transaction in the organisation’s history. In response to CEFC’s growing impact, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Climate Change Minister Chris Bowen have proposed an additional $2 billion in capital allocation, pending parliamentary approval.

Expanding Clean Energy and Climate Tech Investments

The CEFC made substantial progress across its three specialised funds: the Rewiring the Nation Fund committed $2.8 billion to modernising the grid, the Household Energy Upgrades Fund allocated $345 million for discounted financing, and the Powering Australian Technology Fund invested $176.2 million in 19 climate tech innovations. With a lifetime deployment of $12.2 billion and $5.4 billion in repayments reinvested into new projects, CEFC continues to scale its financial impact across Australia. Read More
